Wakefield Health Centre Services

Wakefield Health Centre offers a wide range of specialised health services in Wakefield, Nelson.  We focus on our patients and are keen to support them any way we can.

GP appointments can be made for either face to face or telephone consultations. The cost of the appointment is the same regardless of whether of which option you choose.

GP Services

We have six GPs at Wakefield Health Centre.  In addition, we are a teaching practice and often have Registrars and House Surgeons working alongside us.

GP Appointments

GP Appointments for general health issues which may include minor surgery, medication reviews, diabetes clinics, sexual health, contraception, vasectomy, heart attach and stroke risk assessments.

Skin Check For Skin Cancer

Minor Surgery

All of our GPs preform minor surgery as required.  In addition, two of our GPs are accredited by the Skin Cancer College Australasia, and are able to offer additional services in this area.

Perscriptions

Prescriptions for regular medication can be requested via Manage My Health, in person or by telephone.

Vasectomy

We offer all types of contraceptive at Wakefield Health Centre, including Vasectomy.  If you are considering a Vasectomy please phone to make an appointment.

Rural GP Service

Our GPs hold clinics on Monday mornings (during term time) in Tapawera.  These appointments are often subsidised and are intended to help people who live rurally to access GP services.

Practice Nurse Services

Our Practice Nurses provide a variety of services. We advocate for our patients and support them as much we can by open communication with the patient, family and whanau.

Lifestyle

We offer Diabetic, Cardiovascular (Heart) and Respiratory Checks.  This can include lifestyle and medication advice. We can provide referrals to support services such as Green Prescription if appropriate.

Our nurses offer comprehensive smoking cessation support – if you are considering quitting give us a call and make an appointment to help get you started.

Wound Care

We provide care for wounds, both acutely and ongoing, blood tests, removal of stitches, liquid nitrogen treatment and many other services for our patients.

Female

Cervical Smears

Cervical Smears are an important service that we offer to all women of eligible age.  We can also provide emergency contraception and STI checks.

Vaccination

Vaccinations

We offer vaccinations as per the New Zealand Immunisation Schedule. If you have any questions about immunisation feel free to come and talk to us and we will happily answer your questions.

Accessibility

We focus on our patients and are keen to support them any way we can. This includes:

  • catering for patients with disabilities. We have mobility parking at the front entrance to the building and automatic opening doors. Wheelchairs are available on request.
  • access to interpreting services through Language Line to help remove language barriers
  • communicating by text and email for patients with hearing difficulties.
  • complimentary Wi-Fi access.
